The Vela House

When our clients came to us, they asked for a quiet, modern home that felt crisp in daylight and warm at dusk. We began with a simple idea, three pure volumes that catch the sun like sails and frame a tall, recessed entry. The deep reveal became the project’s signature, a soft-lit groove that welcomes you home and sets the calm tone inside. We worked side by side with the family in short design sprints, testing window heights, sill depths, and the color temperature of the exterior lighting until the façade read exactly as they imagined. Their brief called for privacy to the street and openness to the garden, so we placed narrow vertical openings at the front and larger horizontal panes toward the rear. The plan folds around a protected outdoor room, giving long views to greenery without giving away the interior.
