Casa Drift

Dubai, UAE

We named this home Casa Drift after the way the breeze slides through the street trees and the light drifts across the façade each afternoon. From the first walk with the clients, a young family who wanted calm spaces for everyday life and a warm place to host on weekends, we built the brief around three ideas: privacy from the street, rooms that open to a garden, and materials that age gracefully.

We studied the site at sunrise and late afternoon, then carved a deep canopy on the south side to shade glass while keeping the interiors bright. A timber screen protects the double-height living room, filters views, and becomes the house’s warm spine. Inside, a long living and dining space pockets fully open to the garden. The stair sits in a shaft of daylight, and the bedrooms wrap a quiet terrace so morning air can cross-ventilate the floor.
The clients were hands-on. We held a materials session to choose hand-troweled plaster, warm oak, and a soft limestone that ties exterior to interior. We mocked up the slat spacing on site until the balance of transparency and privacy felt right. High-performance glazing, roof planting, and native landscaping keep the home cool with low energy use. Casa Drift is a simple composition of light, shade, and breeze. It reads calm from the street and feels effortless to live in.
