Project Obsidian

Dubai, UAE

When our client came to us they asked for a home that felt calm by day and magnetic at night. Privacy, generous entertaining space, and a clean modern language were non-negotiables. The site faces a busy street, so our first move was to build a quiet stone envelope and then carve into it. We developed the house as three pared-back volumes in pale limestone wrapped around a spine of dark, almost black glazing. Those vertical fins you see are not decoration. They temper the sun, screen views, and set the rhythm of the façade. We mocked up the fin depth on site with the client and tuned the spacing together until the balance of light and privacy felt right.

Inside, a double-height entry gallery anchors the plan and draws you toward the garden. Public rooms line the pool terrace, while family spaces step back for quiet. Cross ventilation, high-performance glazing, and deep reveals cut cooling demand. A restrained palette of limestone, obsidian glass, and brushed metal keeps the architecture timeless.
Lighting was a shared obsession. We walked the house with the client at dusk, testing levels until the planes read as sculpture. By day, Project Obsidian is a calm stone residence. At night, it becomes a lantern of warm light cut into a monolithic form.
